Although it is a basic term, not everyone understands the role of traffic in each SEO and Online Marketing campaign. Let’s learn about traffic in detail in this chapter 1!

What is Traffic?

Traffic is an SEO term that describes the number of visitors and activities on your website. And higher traffic or traffic is also a signal to help you get better results in the SEO process.

What is potential traffic?

Potential traffic is the estimated amount of traffic that a keyword can bring to your website. With each different keyword, the amount of website traffic they bring is also different.

What is potential traffic?

The expectation of SEOers about the SEO traffic that a keyword brings is the potential website traffic of that keyword.

Most SEOers often set themselves certain goals about the website traffic that keywords bring before starting SEO work for keywords.

Potential traffic is also considered one of the important indicators. This term is Something that every business wants to have in their Online Marketing campaign.

How to calculate potential website traffic?

The process of calculating potential website traffic for a keyword is divided into 2 main steps:

Step 1: Check the average monthly search volume of the keyword

There are now many tools that can assist you in this process. Take for example Ahrefs’ Keyword Explorer tool.

Step 2: Calculate the CTR (Click-through-rate) users click on the article.

Website traffic increases conversions

The most important goal in a Digital Marketing campaign is to increase website traffic, increase conversion rates and achieve sales.
Like I said, even if you have thousands of website traffic every day but can’t convert into sales or turn users into leads, all your efforts will be in vain.

Potential website traffic brings high conversion opportunities. The reason is because most customers visit for the purpose of finding information that your websites can provide. As a result, the likelihood of them buying your product or service increases.

Even if you don’t have a lot of traffic to your website, but most of this website traffic converts into leads or sales, which will be good website traffic.

High Potential Traffic = High Conversion Rate = Higher Sales

Increase ROI for campaigns running Ads

Ads campaign – Charge per click (PPC) is one of the most effective strategies to generate potential traffic to your Landing Pages or main website.

However, if this campaign cannot convert website traffic into sales, you will waste a lot of time and money.

However, before that you need to pay attention to the conversion rate you get and the price of the product/service you are offering.

I will give an example for you to understand:

Let’s say you’re running a PPC campaign to promote a $50 product. If you pay $0.50 per click then you need a conversion rate > 1% from your website traffic.

It means that for every 1000 website visitors it takes at least 10 to buy your product to get the PPC campaign back.

Build brand reputation

Users are constantly searching for huge amounts of information for their purposes and needs. What they need is useful, valuable information, not constantly having to click and then leave immediately.

Therefore, creating many advertising websites makes it easy for users to leave your website as soon as they click on it. This can easily damage the credibility of the brand you are trying to build.

Providing the right content that users are looking for will definitely make them happy. As a result, the reputation of your brand will be enhanced.

These same customers will recommend your brand, product or service to more people. (Also known as Referral Traffic – I will explain it to you in the following sections).

Increase your chances of upselling

Target customers when they find useful information from your website will be more likely to return to the web to look for more information.

If they bought something from their first visit to your website. Chances are they will buy more on their next visits. Unless they are really satisfied with the product/service experience in their previous interaction.

And if you continue to provide valuable information, more and more you will gain loyal followers, thereby generating more sales.

Increase website ranking with website traffic

Potential website traffic is quality traffic. It not only helps increase sales but also builds your brand reputation.

This will give your website a chance to get backlinks from relevant websites. And you also know well:

Whether in the past or present, having quality backlinks is still a top priority factor for increasing website ranking on search engines.

Websites with a lot of backlinks tend to have better rankings on search engines (especially Google).

Introducing 6 basic types of website traffic

Website traffic is calculated when a user visits your website, you can also understand the traffic of the main website by the total number of sessions of that website. Because users access the website through many different channels, based on the source of access, it will be divided into different types of traffic.

1. Referral Traffic

Referal Traffic is the amount of user traffic to your website through referrals from other websites, not through search engines.

For example:

I have posted job vacancies for the position of Technical SEO on the Career Builder website with a detailed job description link to my website. And someone clicks this link to my page, it’s called Referral Traffic.

The more links to your site that appear on popular sources, the more people know about it. These backlinks can be added in articles, comments, topic discussions, user signatures, emails, etc.

Increase the number of beneficial backlinks to your website instead of constantly spamming links. Otherwise you will most likely soon suffer a penalty from the search engines.

2. Social Traffic

Social traffic is traffic through social networking sites, including users who come to your website through links on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Conversion volume depends on business activity and social media engagement.

The most effective solution:

Create a highly interactive community to increase the number of participants.

From there, you can get a huge amount of traffic from the platform with millions of users. At the same time, traffic from social networking sites is a source of quality traffic for your website.

3. Direct Traffic

Direct Traffic refers to the number of users who directly visit your website by typing the URL directly in the address bar or clicking on a previously saved bookmark without going through any other channel.
Direct Traffic usually makes up a relatively small portion of the total number of conversions. However it is extremely important.

Because it is the index that shows:

  • Loyalty level.
  • User brand awareness of your business.
  • The extent to which users trust your business.

To increase Direct Traffic, you need to actively market in both online and offline elements.

4. Organic Traffic (accessed from organic search results)

Organic Traffic (Organic Search Traffic) is the traffic of users accessing your website through search results rankings.

For example, a user might type in the search bar “what is a backlink”, see a link to your site in the search results, and click on it.
Organic Search Traffic helps to scale your business. It depends a lot on the ranking of your website on SERPs with different keywords.

To improve your website’s visibility, you need to optimize individual pages and the entire web through these steps:

  • SEO keyword research
  • Optimizing existing pages
  • Add high-quality blog posts
  • Extensive marketing on multi-channels

This is a long process that takes a lot of work but it will pay off with great benefits.

5. Paid Traffic

Paid Traffic (access from PPC or Paid Search) includes customers accessing your website from any type of paid online advertising.

For example: Google AdWords, Facebook ads, etc.

When you attract customers to visit through Paid Search, you can completely control their traffic with many different parameters.

Its biggest downside is that it is quite expensive. Especially in industries like commerce, when you run out of money the ability to convert will also disappear.

You may see ads on Google that will look like this:
In particular, ads can be displayed in different formats, even in different positions on the page, etc.

There are many sources for you to get a large amount of traffic for your website. So what should be kept in mind when optimizing website traffic?

6. Email Traffic

Email marketing is one of the popular marketing channels and is applied by many people to better reach and take care of their customers. This is also a channel that many people take advantage of Email marketing to increase traffic to their website.

Email Traffic is calculated when someone visits your website after clicking on the link you provided in the email.

Some ways to optimize traffic coming from Email:

  • Optimize subscriber list
  • Grow subscribers organically
  • Personalize Email
  • Captivating subject line
  • Provide quality content
  • A clear call to action

3 Notes before optimizing to increase website traffic

Traffic is not merely an indicator to evaluate website quality as well as user traffic. Besides, traffic is also an indicator to evaluate the effectiveness of an SEO process for businesses. So before starting to optimize traffic for your website, you need to note the following points to do your job well.
Currently, search engines are always user-centered, so when the results are returned, a high position on the search engine bar will be what the user wants. They show that the result is consistent at the time with the user’s behavior.

There are 3 important factors you need to keep in mind before implementing any website traffic growth campaign:

1/ High quality traffic

Actually, to increase traffic to the website in a short time, it is not too difficult. However, these traffic must be of high quality and bring high conversion rates.

Don’t forget, to get quality website traffic, the core thing you need to do is provide valuable content to users. If users are not really interested in the content of the website, they will leave immediately, not stay to read the boring text.

These people are less likely to convert into leads. You should only focus on driving traffic from people who are interested in your website’s products and services.

A strategy to increase website traffic is researched by me during the implementation of projects and has brought me much success, you can refer to and apply to your website. Register now to receive Website Traffic Capture Tactics!

2/ Long-term growth

You must always have an overview in the strategy. Statistical chart of website traffic should be continuously growing, not when increasing, decreasing, suddenly going up and down.

You can implement a short-term plan, disrupting website traffic in minutes – That’s great!

But also don’t forget to promote this growth steadily and continuously. I’ll talk more specifically about long-term growth through SEO below.

3/ Numbers that speak

The amount of traffic in marketing helps you better understand the status of your website & business. Maybe in the process of working you forget that:

The numbers represent website traffic that represent real people.

Be careful! To get a large amount of traffic, quality and high engagement rates on your website, you need to understand the preferences and desires of your users.

Don’t think complicated! The Google Analytics tool can assist you in tracking and analyzing user behavior. Understanding users is that you have partly won the hearts and attracted them to interact and use your products/services.

2. Google Adwords

You may think online advertising on Google is too expensive for small businesses. But really, Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising is really the perfect solution.

It’s low cost but makes it easy to reach the right audience.
Advice for you:

  • It is advisable to set a maximum budget to be paid.
  • Define criteria for the advertising audience you want to reach.
  • Only the targeted groups of people will see this type of ad. Because they also have the same interest in your product/service.

Meanwhile, SEO optimization takes a long time to see the effect. Paid advertising (PPC) is another great alternative to increase high-quality traffic to your website. But it only works for a short time.

Let’s combine SEO implementation and use paid advertising – PPC. This method can help your website quickly grow traffic and appear on the top of Google.

3. Building a community on social networks

Social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, … are an important platform to help you increase quality traffic.

This is a unique direct communication channel for you to interact with your target customers in the most natural and friendly way. And this is also why so many brands work to develop a community on social networks.

I also have a community of my own – SEO Community 2021 is very active on Facebook with more than 54 thousand members.

To build a social community, you need to research the personas of people who love your brand. From there, you can choose the appropriate social networking platforms that they often use.

These Social Media channels can be:

  • The channel that works best for your target market.
  • The best fit for your website’s unique style.

Once you’ve chosen, start planning the right strategy to grow your brand.

  • Determine what to convey.
  • Post frequency and time to get the highest engagement.
  • How to stay engaged with community members.

As for myself, I will share with you some specific ways to create viral content and attract more website traffic.

If it took you 1 day to create content, then take 3 days to market it. Saying this to emphasize to you how important time marketing is.

Research content sharing channels

There are 3 main channels I usually go to to share articles:

  1. Facebook groups in the same field. There are many such groups, the more you attend, the higher the chance of going viral when sharing.
  2. Forums in the same field.
  3. Find pages with a large fan base, pay them to PR your articles.

Pay attention to the time frame

The time frame and date of posting also greatly affect the ability of the article to go viral. Each market will have a different high-interaction time frame. So try to share in many different time frames to be able to grasp the best choice.

Personally, I usually share at 14:45 every Friday.

Note: Each forum/group has their own rules. Therefore, before posting, please read the rules and comply with them first. At the same time, build relationships with admins through comment/like/share to get your post “approved”.

4. Facebook Ads

Although social networking in general and Facebook in particular, is a great place to increase free traffic. But most social networking sites also have promotional products to help emerging brands expand their reach to a wide range of potential customers quickly.

Unlike PPC, social media advertising is not an expensive tool. You can set a maximum spending budget, define your ad’s audience, and target their interests.

To be able to run effective social network ads (specifically Facebook Ads), you can refer to the article 6 steps to run effective ads.

5. Build a blog

When a customer visits your website, attract them right away with attractive, well-designed content. Building a blog site is well worth the investment.

  • Upload beautiful photos
  • Write interesting blog posts.
  • Update content, newsletters, and other types of information that appeal to your target customers.

Not everyone is born a blogger, try to share what you are passionate about and understand well. I have a way to create great content even if you are not good at writing to interact with your readers.

6. Email Marketing

Seasoned marketing experts all acknowledge the power of Email Marketing in driving traffic to the website.

Let’s say an email that conveys a strong message about your product pops up in a customer’s inbox. If the email content is attractive enough, beautifully designed, there is a very high chance that users will visit your website and become your customers.

What you need to do right now is:

  • Use beautiful email themes
  • The content provided in the email is quality, solving the user’s pain.
  • Use CTAs that link to your website

Many people still mistakenly think that sending email is ok, done. The important part is still being forgotten by you.

Statistical analysis of data to evaluate the effectiveness of deployed email campaigns through Open Rate (Email Open Rate), CTR – Click Through Rate (Percentage of users clicking on the attached link). in email), …

Based on that, you can draw from the experience for other more effective email campaigns.

7. Video Marketing

Using video in marketing campaigns is a new trend today. With the success of Facebook Live Stream and the growth of YouTube, video is clearly becoming a marketing channel with great potential.

You can use videos to drive visitors to your website – either on social media or through email.

Creating beautiful videos on the website is also a way to “retain” customers. From there, direct visitors to your conversion goals (like signing up, leaving information, etc.).

Monitor, analyze and improve

Monitoring, analysis and improvement is a series of activities in the traffic optimization process that you need to do regularly to control traffic on your website. This will help you evaluate the effectiveness of your process of optimizing traffic, which channels are getting a lot of traffic, which keywords are falling to the top so that you can plan to improve traffic for your website.
Knowledge is power, and knowledge in online marketing means tracking your website performance stats. You can follow the method above to promote your website.

But if you do not pay attention to analyze the effectiveness of these methods to optimize your time, effort and resources, it is a waste.

Statistics data tells you exactly:

  • Which methods are best suited for whom?
  • Traffic comes from which source is most effective at what time?
  • Which keywords are bringing you more website traffic?

Keeping information helps you make smarter choices about future campaigns. And that’s how you keep growing!

Above is the whole answer for you about what traffic is and how to optimize it to increase traffic for the website most effectively. If you’ve read this far, I’m sure you’ve found the best way to increase traffic to your website.
